This is a costumed event so please wear Regency attire to each activity (other than the movie night and possibly ball workshop). We have ideas, tutorials and inspiration to help you come up with your own Regency clothes on our Instagram and Facebook pages if you are new to Regency costuming. You can always reach out to us for more help. Costumes can be as simple or elaborate as you'd like. We have found that the accessories really make the outfit. Two meals will be provided during the festival, including a light dinner at the ball and afternoon tea on the last day. We will have a ball workshop so you can learn the dances before the actual ball. Please refer to our Schedule page to see a full list of events by day and our FAQ page for questions. Follow us on one of our social media pages to be kept up to date. And check out our Pinterest board for inspiration. Please be courteous of your fellow festival-goers and make sure to be prompt to all events as they will start on time. We realize taking photos is half the fun, so please plan for time before or after events to get your photographs. We will also have professional photographers at the events who will be documenting the activites. If you are interested in selling Regency/Jane Austen items at our market, please email us directly. If you are new to festivals, come ready to meet new friends and don't be shy! It is unreal to be among so many people in costume--it is one of my very favorite things. It's a step back in time and a chance to be creative.
What to Bring
You will need to provide your own costumes. There are many options on Amazon that you can add to and embellish. The Regency silhouette for women is a long a-line dress with an empire waist and typically short puff sleeves or long sleeves, if you are looking to thrift. There are also plenty of patterns and tutorials online if you would like to sew your own. There are some fabulous tutorials for remaking bonnets, Spencers from thrifted jackets and easy reticules. Some accessories include shawls, Spencers (Regency jackets), fans, parasols, fichus, chemisettes, sashes, ribbons, lace, jewelry, feathers and reticules. For both men and women-- gloves, hats and stockings were a must. Women wore long gloves, feathers and jewels to balls and short gloves and bonnets with day wear. Keep in mind that you do not have to have something elaborate every day. You can bring 1-2 dresses and accessorize differently for different days/events!
For the picnic, you will be in charge of bringing your own picnic lunch, drinks, basket, blanket and any other pillows and picnic decor that you would like.
The movie night will be in a theater this year with our own private viewing. Feel free to wear comfy clothes (modern if you'd like).
Please remember to bring water for the duration of the festival.
